Malice is our free survivor-vs-killer escape game you play right in your browser. You’re one of five survivors trapped in a dark asylum with a single unstoppable killer. Work with your team to grab keys, power generators and outlast the clock — then sprint for the exit before the killer catches you. Nothing to download, no account needed.
What is Malice?
Malice is a fast, tense round of asymmetric horror. Four survivors and you (the rest are smart bots) are hunted through a giant, room-filled asylum by one killer who cannot be killed. Your job as a survivor is to grab the keys scattered around the map to unlock its sealed wings, survive for two minutes, and then reach the glowing exit in the frantic final 30 seconds. If you’re playing the killer, you’re the one doing the hunting — and you only get faster over time.
It’s the same instant, no-download fun as our other free online browser games, and it scratches the same itch as our multiplayer prop-hunt Hide or Die and our survival hit Infection.
How to play: the controls
- Move with the Arrow Keys.
- Sprint with Shift — but stamina is limited, so save it for when the killer is on you.
- Use your character’s abilities with the 1, 2, 3 and 4 keys.
- Walk over a key to unlock a wing of the asylum.
- Walk onto a generator and type the letters shown to repair it for bonus Malice.
- Command your squad with C.
- Start / next round with Space.
Keys, generators and the exit
The asylum starts sealed. Scattered keys unlock its locked wings — grab them to open up escape routes and reach more generators. Powering generators (by typing the letters that pop up) and collecting keys both build your Malice. Survive the two-minute timer and the exit lights up; from there you have just 30 seconds to reach it, so don’t go wandering when it opens.
The killer: stun it, don’t kill it
The killer can’t be killed — only stunned and slowed. That’s your main tool for saving a teammate who’s cornered: stun the killer off them and both of you can slip away. There’s no downed state either — take enough hits and you turn weak (a little slower) until you’re finally caught, so play it safe once you’re hurt. And remember: the killer only gets faster as the round goes on, so keep it stunned and keep moving.
Characters and abilities
Every character plays differently, and you can spend coins in the shop to unlock more. Noob turns to stone with Slateskin to tank a hit, Guest 1337 blocks and then parry-punches to stun the killer, and Elliot heals the whole team. On the killer side you’ll rotate through a roster of nasties — think Slasher, c00lkidd, John Doe and 1x1x1x1 — each with their own hunting kit.
Quick start
- Open Malice and press Space.
- Use the Arrow Keys to run and Shift to sprint.
- Grab keys and repair generators while dodging the killer.
- Survive two minutes, then race to the exit in the last 30 seconds.
Tips to survive the asylum
- Never solo the killer. Stun it off teammates and stick together — a stunned killer can’t chase.
- Save your sprint. Keep stamina in reserve for the moment the killer commits to you.
- Do objectives early. Generators and keys are safest to grab while the killer is busy on the far side of the map.
- Don’t over-chase Malice. Earning the most Malice makes you the killer next round — great if you want the role, risky if you don’t.
- Be ready for the exit. When the timer ends you only have 30 seconds, so be near an unlocked route.
Why play Malice in the browser?
Because it loads in seconds. No launcher, no install, no sign-up — it runs on a gaming PC, a work laptop or a Chromebook straight from a browser tab. If you like tense hide-and-chase games, it pairs perfectly with our other free stealth games and is a great pick for a session of games to play with friends.
Final word
Malice is asymmetric horror boiled down to its best part: five survivors, one relentless killer, and a race against the clock. Power the generators, grab the keys, stun the killer off your friends, and sprint for the exit. Then hit Space and see if you can escape again — or earn enough Malice to become the hunter yourself.
