What is VoxelCraft?

VoxelCraft is a sandbox game built around the simplest, most satisfying loop in gaming: break blocks, collect what they drop, craft new materials, and place them back down to build whatever you want. The world is fully 3D and split into biomes — plains, forests, deserts and snowy hills — so you look around with your mouse, walk across rolling terrain, climb trees, dig tunnels, and stack blocks into towers, houses, bridges — or a giant statue of your friend, if that’s your thing.

It takes obvious inspiration from the block-building genre that sandbox games made famous, but it’s designed to be instantly playable in a browser tab on almost any laptop.

How to play

The controls are quick to learn:

Your hotbar starts empty — gather and stack

VoxelCraft isn’t a creative free-for-all where you have infinite blocks. You start with an empty hotbar, and every block you break drops an item that you walk over to pick up. Identical blocks stack together with a small count in the corner of the slot — so mine two grass and you’ll see grass with a little “2” on it. Placing a block uses one from the selected stack, so it actually matters what you collect.

Different blocks take different time to mine

Not every block breaks at the same speed. Leaves and sand crumble almost instantly, dirt and grass go quickly, wood takes a moment, and stone, cobblestone and brick make you really commit to the dig. A little progress bar appears under your crosshair so you can see how close you are to breaking through. Bedrock, the dark layer at the very bottom of the world, is unbreakable — so you’ll never accidentally fall out of the map.

Mobs and surviving the night

During the day, peaceful mobs like pigs and cows wander the hills. It’s calm, it’s pretty, it’s a great time to gather blocks and build. But VoxelCraft has a full day and night cycle, and when the sun goes down, zombies spawn and start hunting players. You’ll see the sky darken, the stars come out, and the screen edges close in — your cue to either fight, run, or hide behind walls you built earlier.

You can fight back with Left Click, but the smarter move is often to build a shelter before dark and wait it out. Or…

Crafting turns raw materials into new blocks

Press X any time to open the crafting menu. Spend the blocks you’ve gathered to make things you can’t mine directly: turn 1 wood into 4 planks, smelt sand into glass, shape stone into cobblestone, combine 4 glass into a glowstone lamp, or build a bed from planks and wood. Recipes you can afford light up green; the rest stay greyed out until you collect what they need.

Explore different biomes

The world isn’t one flat field. As you wander you’ll cross grassy plains, forests dotted with trees, sandy deserts with cactus columns, and snowy hills capped in white. Because the terrain is generated from your world code, everyone who joins with the same link sees the exact same biomes in the exact same places.

Beds let you skip the night

Craft a bed (press X), place it, stand next to it after dark, and press B to sleep. The world fast-forwards to dawn and clears out the night’s zombies. In multiplayer, sleeping moves the shared world clock forward for everyone in your world — so a quick nap saves the whole group.

It’s multiplayer — just share a link

This is the part we’re most excited about. Every VoxelCraft world has a short world code, and when you start a game, the address bar updates with that code. Click the “Copy Invite Link” button in the corner, send it to your friends, and when they open it they’ll drop straight into your world — same terrain, same buildings, same mobs.

Everyone mines and builds together in real time over a fast WebSocket connection, so the block you break shows up instantly on your friend’s screen. It’s the same “send a link and play together” approach we love about the rest of our multiplayer games.

Tips for your first session

Why play in the browser?

Because there’s nothing standing between you and the game. No launcher, no patch, no sign-up. VoxelCraft works on a gaming PC, a school laptop, or a Chromebook — if it has a modern browser and a mouse, you can play. It’s the perfect pick for the next time you’re bored and want something to do.

Final thoughts

VoxelCraft brings the joy of mining, building and surviving to a browser tab, and it’s best with friends. Open it, build something, survive the night, and send the link to someone. We can’t wait to see what you make.
