You wake stranded on a lonely rock in a black, glowing sea. That’s the setup for Abyss Survivor, our free 3D deep-sea survival game you play right in your browser. By day you dive for resources; by night the water turns bitterly cold and you retreat to your cave to keep a fire burning. It’s a compact take on the underwater survival game — think a bite-sized, Subnautica-style loop — with nothing to download and no account to make.
What is Abyss Survivor?
Abyss Survivor is a first-person diving survival game set on a small island ringed by an ever-deepening ocean. The core loop is simple and moreish: dive, gather, craft, survive the night, repeat. The deep is dark and beautiful — glowing crystals, drifting marine snow, shafts of light from the surface — and it hides the best loot. Every run is a push-your-luck decision: how deep do you dare go before your oxygen runs low?
It’s the same instant, no-download approach as the rest of our free online browser games, just wetter and colder.
How to play: the controls
- Move and swim with the Arrow Keys or WASD; look around with the mouse (click to lock the pointer).
- Space swims up or jumps; Ctrl dives down; Shift sprints.
- E gathers resources and lights or feeds your fire.
- C opens crafting, F attacks with a spear, T toggles a torch, and G cooks or eats fish.
Manage oxygen, warmth, food and health
Four meters keep you honest. Oxygen drains while you’re submerged, so surface for air before it empties. Warmth falls at night and in cold, deep water — a lit fire is your lifeline. Food ticks down slowly until you cook and eat fish. Let any of them bottom out and your health starts to go. Balancing all four while chasing better gear is the heart of the game.
Build a fire and survive the night
Your cave holds a fire pit, and the fire is everything after dark. Feed it wood (press E) to keep it burning; stand close and it restores your warmth fast, and it’s where you cook fish to eat. You start each run with a fire already lit and a few fish in your pack — enough to find your feet — but you’ll need to gather driftwood to keep it going through the long, cold nights.
Craft gear and upgrades
Diving deeper safely means crafting. Turn wood, ore, kelp and glowing crystals into a spear for hunting, a torch to light the black deep, an oxygen tank upgrade for longer dives, and dive fins for speed. Each upgrade opens up a little more of the ocean — and the deep trenches, where the brightest crystals glow, are worth the risk.
Quick start
- Open Abyss Survivor and press Dive In.
- Swim out with WASD, dive with Ctrl, and gather with E.
- Surface for air before your oxygen runs out.
- Before night, get to shore and feed your fire to stay warm.
The creatures leave you alone — unless you start it
The ocean is full of life, and most of it is peaceful. Fish drift in schools, and even the big shapes gliding through the deep won’t bother you… unless you attack first. Jab a creature with your spear and it turns on you, so pick your fights — but defeat one and it drops fish to cook. It makes hunting a real choice rather than a constant threat, which keeps the diving relaxing right up until you decide to make it dangerous.
Why play a survival game in the browser?
Because it’s instant. No launcher, no patch, no sign-up — Abyss Survivor runs on a gaming PC, a work laptop, or a Chromebook straight from a browser tab. It’s a perfect run for a break, or the next time you’re bored and want something to do. If you like gathering and building, try our 3D sandbox VoxelCraft too.
Take a breath and dive
Abyss Survivor is about small, tense decisions: one more dive, one more crystal, one more log on the fire before the dark closes in. Open it, take a breath, and see how many nights you can last.
